Capsule Wardrobes

For the past few years more and more people have been investing in statement and classic pieces that can be worn again and again.

I found capsule wardrobes on Pinterest when looking for ideas of what types of clothes and different outfits that I can take away on holiday. I also have started to think more often about making a capsule wardrobe for my everyday wear as well. Although I have looked and used inspiration of these Pins for holiday outfits I haven’t actually made a capsule wardrobe properly. I have reduced the amount of clothes I have in my wardrobe and drawers but I am yet to be able to go out and buy those pieces. I also want to have a clear image in my mind of what I items of clothing I want in my wardrobe and I am hoping that by this time next year I would have a capsule wardrobe.

Talking about a capsule wardrobe and having minimal items of clothing I am not saying I will never have or buy clothes that would be outside of that but I am hoping that 90% of my wardrobe will all be able to be worn with each piece.

A capsule wardrobe is defined as a compact wardrobe which is made up of staple pieces in co-ordinating colours. They generally have 30 items or less in them and this includes shoes and accessories. I would love to be able to grab a pair of bottoms and a top and just be able to wear it and to me that is going to be the overall aim: to just be able to grab a top and trousers or a skirt and it look put together as well as it be quick and easy to get dressed in the morning.

I often wake up and on my days off spend hours and I means hours trying to find something to wear that I will feel good, presentable and comfortable in. This is why I feel that a capsule wardrobe would help, if all of my clothes at that moment in time help me feel that way then I will not spend as much time trying clothes on and then changing my mind.

I have a basic understanding of what I would want in my wardrobe which in total comes to 53 items, this is including bags, shoes and accessories. I don’t mind that I have more than the “typical” 30 items however, I know that all of these items would be used all of the time.

I have had a list of what I want included in my capsule wardrobe these include:

  • Jeans – One Black, One White, One Blue.

  • Skirts – One Black Mini, One Grey Mini, One Black Midi, One Grey Midi, One Black Dressy.

  • Basic Tee’s – One Black. One Grey, One White.

  • Strappy Tops – One Black, One White, One Grey.

  • Hoodies and Jumpers – One Dark, One Knitted.

  • Dresses – One Black Midi, One Black Mini, One Fancy, One Maxi.

  • Playsuits – One Floral, One Block Colour

  • Cardigans – One Black, One Grey, One White.

  • Jackets and Coats – One Raincoat, One Leather Jacket.

  • Trousers (Smart) – One Black, One Grey, One Striped.

  • Shirts – One White, One Blue, One Striped, One Flannel, One Black.

  • Footwear – Wedges, Nude Heels, Black Heels, Tan Chelsea Boots, Grey Heeled Boots, Black Trainers, White Vans, Black Ballet Pumps, Grey Ballet Pumps, Flip-Flops, Sandals.

  • Accessories – Watch, Bracelet, Blue Clutch Bag, White Small Cross Body, Tote Bag, Rucksack, Tan Cross Body.

These for me would be the staple pieces and there would always be a few items which are worn a couple of times per year as well as there being the clothes that are brought for holidays and very seasonal clothing that is not included in an everyday wardrobe. Obviously this would be different for each person, I find it easier to write down what you want to have in your new capsule wardrobe and then looking at what you have in your wardrobe or clothing units. I find it easier to do it this way as you are bale to tick off the items that you have already and see what you actually need to buy for this wardrobe.

There are a few tops which I haven’t written on the list as I don’t wear them on a daily basis however, they are good quality tops which I do love still and I do wear when going out for a meal or chilling outside in the summer.

I found it so easy to find clothing ideas on Pinterest, which will also be able to give outfit ideas and how a capsule wardrobe should fit together and how most of the items should be able to be worn with each other.

Much Love,

Caitlin xxx
